作品の出発点は、1777年に出版されたジャン・ルロ ン・ダルベールとドゥニ・ディドロによる“フランス大百科事典”の幾何学や工学(光学、円錐曲線、三角 法など)に関する版画です。
このエングレーヴィング(銅板版画)との対話の中で生まれた一連のドローイングは、数学的なルールから、抽象的で幾何学的なパターンを自由に対象化することに焦点を移しました。
ドローイングを通して、私は直感と想像力に基づき、世界をよりよく理解することを可能にした法則を用いてゲームを行なっています。
18世紀の幾何学の技術用語は(工学的な実用性を除けば)視覚芸術とは無縁であったことを付け加えておきたい。
このドローイングシリーズは、ポーランドの構成主義やミニマリズムの伝統と、繊細で簡素な日本の美学を、古代美術や現代美術の文脈で関連付けています。

1999年から2004年まで、ポズナン美術アカデミー(現ポズナン 芸術大学)でグラフィックアートとプリントメイキングを学ぶ
2008年から同校で教鞭をとる。ドローイング・インスタレーション・ペインティング・アートブックなどの作品を発表
ポーランド・ドイツ・スイス・日本・韓国など、多くの個展やグループ展で作品を発表

As part of a group exhibition entitled.
"RESONATING VIEWS" at the Contemporary Art Museum Ise, Japan, I will realise an artwork entitled ENCYCLOPEDIC DRAWINGS (The Encyclopedic Drawings).
The starting point for the work (artwork) are engravings from the Great French Encyclopaedia by Jean le Rond D'albert and Denis Diderot from 1777 on geometric and engineering (e.g. optics, the conic curve and trigonometry).
A series of drawings that emerged in dialogue with the engravings shifted the focus from mathematical rules to the free objectification of abstract - geometric patterns. Through the drawings,
I conduct a game based on intuition and imagination with laws that have allowed us to better understand the world.
I would like to add that the technical language of geometry in the eighteenth century (except perhaps for the engineering pragmatics) had no contact with the visual arts.
The series of drawings I also relate to the well-established tradition of Polish constructivism and minimalism against the delicate and parsimonious Japanese aesthetics, in the context of both ancient art, as well as contemporary art.
Paweł Polus
Paweł Polus, born in 1979 in Wągrowiec. Between 1999 and 2004 he studied graphic arts and print making at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań (at present University of Arts). Since 2008 works as an academical teacher. His works includes drawing, installations, paintings, artistic books. He was showing his works on many solo and collective exhibition including Poland, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Sound Korea. Lives and works in Poznań.
